The New Year honours always provoke a bit of a controversy – this year’s list has provoked an utter shitstorm: New Year honours feature Covid experts with Chris Whitty knighted. For those of us of an anti-lockdown / anti-vaccine passport persuasion, the knighthoods for Chris Whitty (Chief Medical Advisor to the UK Government), Jonathan Van-Tam (Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England) and Dr. Jenny Harries, the chief executive of the UK Health Security Agency, being made a dame, is a massive but not unexpected slap in the face. When you think of the misery and damage caused by successive lockdowns and restrictions, these three have a lot to answer for. Yet instead of calling them to account, they’re awarded ‘honours’ instead.
Then to cap it all, Tony Blair who to all intents and purposes is a war criminal and a renowned pusher of digital identity via the vaccine passports gets a knighthood. Not just any old knighthood but a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter. Let’s just say that when news of this broke on New Year’s Eve, the reaction among the people we follow on Twitter was something to witness. The anger was palpable, understandably so. A lot of them were saying that if you want to discredit the honours system and the monarchy in one go, this is the way to do it!
If the establishment had just left it at Whitty, Van Tam and Harries and left Blair out of it, the only people getting angry would be us anti-lockdown / anti-vaccine passport types. Our anger would be dismissed as the rantings of a ‘bunch of conspiracy theorists’. Giving a knighthood to Blair changes the dynamic completely because a lot of the Left who opposed the war on Iraq in 2003 have joined us in expressing their anger at this decision. Bear in mind, a fair number of these Left wingers have been on our cases over the last twenty two months for our opposition to lockdowns and vaccine passports. They now find that ne one issue at least, they have common cause with us. If the establishment are trying to play the divide and rule game, they’ve potentially screwed up over this one. So the question is, what are they playing at?
Let’s have a look at the scenarios:
1) They have seriously failed to read the room on this one and are not aware of the strength of antipathy among the populace, not just towards the war criminal and digital ID pusher, Blair, but also towards Whitty, Van Tam and Harries. Some people may find some degree of comfort in thinking the establishment have dropped a massive clanger with this. We think the bastards who presume to rule over us are far too clever to drop a clanger so, it’s either one or the other of the next two scenarios, or possibly a mix of both of them.
2) They know the strength of feeling among the populace about these people getting knighthoods and honours but in their arrogance, simply don’t care. This is their ‘let them eat cake’ moment. Us plebs will just have to suck this one up. They don’t care if this has caused more people to question the honours system and also, the institution of the monarchy. They think they can ride this one out and if there is a reaction on the streets, they will soon have the powers to crush it and a compliant media to denigrate it.
3) They deliberately want to provoke a reaction on the streets. With the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill due to become law very soon, any reaction on the streets will be used as a justification for bringing this in. They know what level of anger this will provoke and are more than willing to face that off on the streets if need be, relying on their mates in a bought and corrupt media to denigrate us. Which is precisely why we need to take a few steps back to think about the strategy and tactics we need to develop to win this fight rather than allow ourselves to be intentionally provoked.
They’ve played their hand. We’ve got to keep ours hidden for as long as possible and not give them any ammunition to use against us or any excuse to further clam down on us. It really does look as though 2022 is going to be an interesting year!
